JOURNAL ENTRY 01

HOUSE OF MAYBES

There was a time when I believed uncertainty was temporary. I thought if I waited long enough, worked hard enough, loved deeply enough, or explained myself clearly enough, eventually everything would make sense. The answers would come. The doors would open. The people who were meant to stay would stay.

Instead, I found myself living in what I now call the House of Maybes. Maybe they’ll understand. Maybe things will go back to the way they were. Maybe this is just a difficult season. Maybe tomorrow will be different. Maybe if I try one more time. The problem with maybes is that they can feel a lot like hope. Sometimes they keep us moving forward. Other times they keep us standing still.

I spent longer than I would like to admit waiting for certainty. Waiting for conversations that never happened, Waiting for clarity that never arrived. Waiting for people to become who I believed they could be. Eventually I realized that not every chapter ends with answers. Some chapters end with answers. Some chapters end with a choice. A choice to stop waiting. A choice to release the version of the future I had been holding onto. A choice to leave the house, even when I wasn’t sure where the road would lead next.

Looking back, I don’t regret believing in possibilities. I don’t regret hoping. Those things are part of who I am. But I have learned that peace doesn’t always come from finding certainty. Sometimes peace comes from accepting uncertainty and moving forward anyway.

House of Maybes is for anyone who has ever stood in a doorway between what was and what could have been. Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is walk away from questions we cannot answer and trust ourselves to find our way home.
