I’ve always believed that places remember us. Not literally, of course. But in the way certain roads can bring back entire seasons of your life.
The way a familiar intersection can remind you of a conversation from twenty years ago. The way a small town can hold pieces of your story long after you’ve moved on.
When I think about where I come from, I don’t just think about buildings or street names. I think about moments. Summer evenings that seemed to last forever. The glow of porch lights after dark. The sound of crickets on warm nights. Driving familiar roads without needing directions. The comfort of knowing exactly where you are in the world.
Small towns have a way of becoming part of your internal landscape. Even when life takes you elsewhere, they stay with you. Not because they’re perfect. Every place has its flaws. Every hometown holds complicated memories.
They saw our first dreams. Our first heartbreaks. Our first attempts at finding our place in the world.
The older I get, the more I realize that home isn’t always a location. Sometimes its a collection of memories. A feeling. A sense of connection to the people, places, and experiences that shaped us.
That’s what Small Town Constellations means to me. The idea that our lives are made up of countless small moments that, when viewed from a distance, form a larger picture.
Much like stars in the night sky. One memory by itself may seem insignificant. One road. One summer. One conversation. One familiar face. But together they create a map. A constellation. A reminder of where we’ve been and the people we’ve been a long the way.
And no matter how far we travel, some stars remain familiar enough to help us find our way back to ourselves.
